Overview
--------

Taxonomy is how content gets categorised. It has two levels: a **vocabulary** is a set of categories, such as *News categories*, and a **term** is one entry inside it, such as *Infrastructure* or *Funding*.

A term is more than a label. Each one has a page of its own listing the content filed under it, so a visitor can browse everything in *Infrastructure* in one place.

> **⚠️ Important:** This is an administrator's job. Content editors have no access to these screens.

The vocabularies on this site
-----------------------------

1. In the admin menu, open **Structure**, then **Taxonomy**.

This site has two vocabularies. **News categories** files articles by topic, and **Event types** badges and filters events. Press **List terms** to see what is inside one.

Managing terms
--------------

1. On the **Taxonomy** screen, press **List terms** next to the vocabulary you want.
2. Press **Add term**, or **Edit** next to an existing one.
3. Fill in **Name** and, if you want, a **Description**.
4. To nest it under another term, open **Relations** and pick that one under **Parent terms**.
5. Press **Save**.

> **💡 Tip:** Terms can be reordered by dragging their handles, which changes the order they appear in wherever the vocabulary is used, such as a filter list. **Add child** on a row is a quicker way to create a term already nested under that one.

Adding or removing a vocabulary
-------------------------------

On the main **Taxonomy** screen, press **Add vocabulary** to create a new one, or press the arrow beside **List terms** on an existing vocabulary and choose **Edit vocabulary** or **Delete vocabulary**.

> **⚠️ Important:** Deleting a vocabulary deletes every term inside it. Anything tagged with those terms keeps its other content but loses that categorisation.
