Overview
--------

A scheduled transition moves a page from one workflow state to another at a date and time you choose, for example from Draft to Published at nine o'clock on Monday. It works with the site's workflow, so it can also take a page from Published to Unpublished.

Feature

What it does

On this site

Scheduling

Publishes or unpublishes on a date, set on the editing form.

Installed, not switched on for any content type.

Scheduled transitions

Moves a page between workflow states on a date, and can line up several moves.

Installed, not switched on for any content type.

> **💡 Note:** Your site has both tools, and they overlap. Most sites need only one. For the simpler one, see [**Scheduling content to publish later**](/articles/scheduling-content-to-publish-later).

---

Switching them on
-----------------

> **⚠️ Important:** This is administrator work.

1. Go to **Configuration**, then **Workflow**, then **Scheduled transitions settings**.
2. Under **Enabled types**, tick the content types that should use them, such as Article.
3. Leave **Create scheduling jobs in cron** switched on, so transitions run by themselves.
4. Press **Save configuration**.

Seeing what is scheduled
------------------------

The **Scheduled transitions** tab on the Content screen lists every transition waiting to happen, with its page and date. It is empty until the feature is on and something is scheduled.

> **💡 Note:** Who can schedule a transition follows who can edit the page, so content editors will be able to use them once they are switched on. The workflow states themselves are covered in [**Configure content workflows**](/articles/configure-content-workflows).
