Publishing news and media releases

Overview
--------

News, media releases, speeches and announcements are all made the same way on your site: as an **Article**. What tells them apart is the news category you file them under, such as News, Media release or Speech.

Articles are collected onto the News & media page by themselves, newest first, where visitors can search them and filter them by category.

> **💡 Note:** Articles go through the workflow, so a new article is saved as a **Draft** unless you choose **Published** from **Save as**.

---

Writing an article
------------------

1. Press **Create** in the sidebar and choose **Article**. The page is headed **Create Article**.
2. Fill in the **Title**. This is the only field the form insists on.
3. On the **Content** tab, build the article from components. Most articles need only a Text component for the words, with an image or a call to action where it helps.
4. Open the **Banner** tab. Add a **Subtitle**, a short introduction shown under the title, and a **Banner image** using **Add media** if you want them.
5. Still on the **Banner** tab, start typing in **News categories** and choose a category from the list. To file the article under a second category, press **Add another item**.
6. Choose **Draft** or **Published** from **Save as**, then press **Save**.

For writing in a Text component, see [**Using the editor**](/articles/using-the-editor). For the other components, see [**Site components overview**](/articles/site-components-overview).

---

News categories
---------------

Twelve categories are available: Core Systems, Frontier Territories, Funding, Housing, Hyperlanes, Infrastructure, Media release, News, Outer Rim, Planning & Development, Speech and Vega Sector.

The category is shown as a label on the article and on its card, and it drives the filter on the News & media page, so an article with no category cannot be found that way. Only an administrator can add to the list. See [**Taxonomy: vocabularies and terms**](/articles/taxonomy-vocabularies-and-terms).

Where articles appear
---------------------

A published article joins the News & media page on its own. You do not have to add it anywhere. Its address is built from its title under /news/, so an article titled Draft housing strategy released gets /news/draft-housing-strategy-released.

- Articles are listed newest first, as a card with the banner image, category, date, title and a short extract.
- Visitors can search the list, and filter it by ticking categories under **Type**.
- Under **Year**, they can narrow the list to the articles from a single year, or choose **All years** to see everything again.

### What decides the order

The list is ordered by the date the article was written, shown as **Authored on** under **Authoring information** in the right-hand column. It is filled in for you when you first save. Only an administrator can change it, so ask one if an article genuinely belongs at a different point in the list, such as one written for an earlier date.

> **💡 Note:** If you need an article to go live on a future date, ask an administrator about scheduling. It is installed but switched off for articles as standard. See [**Scheduling content to publish later**](/articles/scheduling-content-to-publish-later).
