   Overview
--------

Layout Builder is a visual design tool that allows you to create custom layouts for your content pages in District. It's enabled across all content types, giving you the flexibility to design pages exactly how you need them, without writing any code.

Key concepts
------------

Layout Builder is built around two core elements:

- **Sections:** The primary containers that structure your page. Each section can have a different column layout — such as a single column for a full-width banner, or multiple columns for side-by-side content. You can add as many sections as you need.
- **Blocks:** The individual content pieces that live inside sections. A block can be a paragraph of text, an image, an embedded video, a webform, or any other component available in District. You can place multiple blocks within a section and rearrange them freely.

For more detail, see **Working with sections in Layout Builder** and **Adding and managing blocks in Layout Builder**.

Default and custom layouts
--------------------------

Every content type in District comes with a pre-defined default layout. When you create a new page, its display will follow this default layout automatically.

If you want to customise the layout of a specific page:

1. Navigate to the content page you want to modify and click **Edit**.
2. Click the **Layout** tab. This opens the Layout Builder interface.
3. From here, you can add, arrange, and configure sections and blocks to build your desired layout.

Previewing content
------------------

To see how your content fits within the page while you're working, enable the **Show content preview** option in Layout Builder. This gives you a live preview of how the page will appear to visitors.

Reverting to the default layout
-------------------------------

If you want to undo your customisations and restore the page to its original default layout, click the **Revert to defaults** button in Layout Builder.

> **⚠️ Note:** Reverting to defaults will permanently discard all layout changes you've made to that page. This action cannot be undone.
