Overview
--------

Google Analytics measures how people use your site: which pages they visit, how they arrive, and what they search for. Your site connects to it through a Google tag, a short ID from your Google account.

The Google Tag connection is installed.

No ID entered

No tag is sent, so Google is not measuring the site.

> **⚠️ Important:** Adding a tag is administrator work, and it needs an ID from your own Google Analytics or Tag Manager account.

Adding a tag
------------

1. Go to **Configuration**, then **Web services**, then **Google Tag**.
2. Under **Google Tag ID(s)**, enter the ID from your Google account. It looks like G-XXXXXXXXXX for Google Analytics.
3. Use **Add another ID** if you send to more than one account.
4. Press **Save**.

Consent comes first
-------------------

Analytics sets cookies, so visitors should be asked first. The same screen has an **Enforce Privacy Consent Policy** setting, and the site's consent banner can hold analytics back until a visitor agrees. Turn the matching service on in the consent settings at the same time. See [**Cookie consent**](/articles/cookie-consent).

> **💡 Note:** Once a tag is in place, give it a day before relying on the figures. Google needs some traffic before its reports fill in.
