   Overview
--------

Creating a user account gives someone access to manage content on your District site. Once created, the user will appear in the People section and can log in with their assigned credentials. For more information on what different users can do, see **User roles and permissions overview**.

Create a new user account
-------------------------

1. In the menu, click the **People** icon.
2. Click the **+ Add user** button at the top of the page.
3. Fill in the new user's details:
    - **First name** and **Last name**
    - **Email address** — used for system notifications
    - **Username** — the name they will use to log in
    - **Password** and **Confirm password**
    - **Status** — optionally customise the account status, choose to notify the user of their new account, and add a phone number
    - **Roles** — toggle on the appropriate role(s) for this user. See **Configure roles and permissions** for details on available roles
    - **Locale settings** — set the user's time zone for displaying dates and times across the site
    - **Rabbit Hole settings** — configure what happens when someone visits the entity page for this user
4. Click **Create new account**. The new user is now added to the People page and can access District.
