 Cookie consent

Overview
--------

Cookie consent is handled by Klaro, which can hold back a third-party service, such as a map, a video or an analytics script, until a visitor agrees to it. It ships with a large catalogue of ready-made services, and each one stays switched off until you need it. While nothing is switched on, there is nothing for a banner to ask about.

> **⚠️ Important:** This is an administrator's job. Content editors have no access to these screens.

---

What's active right now
-----------------------

1. In the admin menu, open **Configuration**, then **User interface**, then **Klaro!**.
2. Open the **Manage** tab, then **Services**.

![The Klaro Service entities list with the two enabled services, Drupal CMS and Consent manager, outlined in red among the disabled ones.](/storage/IniOjieToVUgiNi2y6Rn6SKrB7k9a3S9Skar8za8.png)

Every service in the list is Disabled except Drupal CMS and Consent manager, which are the baseline the consent system needs to run at all. Because nothing else is enabled, visitors do not currently see a consent banner: there is nothing yet for it to ask permission for.

---

Turning on a service
--------------------

If a page is going to embed something like a map or a social post, turn on the matching service first so Klaro gates it properly.

1. On the **Services** list, find the service, such as Google Maps or Facebook.
2. Press **Edit**.
3. Tick **Enabled**.
4. Check which purpose it is filed under. The purposes appear on the same form as tick boxes, and the one you choose decides the heading a visitor sees it under.
5. Leave **Toggled by default** alone unless you have a reason to change it. It decides whether the service starts switched on before the visitor has chosen.
6. Press **Save**.

> **💡 Note:** Enabling a service here does not add the embed itself. It only makes Klaro ready to ask consent for it once the embed is actually added to a page.

---

What the visitor is asked
-------------------------

Klaro does not ask about services one at a time. It groups them under purposes, and the visitor agrees or declines a purpose rather than each service inside it.

Seven purposes come with the site.

- Advertising and Marketing
- Analytics
- Embedded external content
- Functional
- Live chat
- Security
- Styling

You can see them under **Manage**, then **Purposes**.

---

Changing the wording
--------------------

The words on the banner are yours to set, and the ones that ship are generic.

1. Open **Configuration**, then **User interface**, then **Klaro!**.
2. Open the **Texts** tab.
3. Set the **Title** and **Description** the banner opens with, and the **OK label**, **Accept all label** and **Decline label** on its buttons.
4. Press **Save**.

> **💡 Note:** The **URL** and **Learn more text** fields set the link the banner offers for more detail. A privacy policy page is what usually belongs there.

The **Settings** tab beside it controls how the banner behaves, including **Notice dialog as modal**, which holds the page until the visitor answers, and **Show Toggle Button**, which lets them reopen their choices later.
