   Overview
--------

You can use a range of styling options in District to format your content, from basic inline styles like bold and italic, to headings, paragraph styles, and custom block styles specific to your site.

All styles are applied through the WYSIWYG editor toolbar. For a general overview of the editor, see **Using the WYSIWYG editor**.

Applying basic styles
---------------------

Basic styles include headings (H1, H2, H3, etc.), paragraph styles, and inline styles like bold, italic, and underline.

1. Highlight the text you want to format.
2. Use the toolbar buttons or dropdowns in the WYSIWYG editor to apply the style you need:

- **Bold, italic, underline:** Click the relevant button in the toolbar.
- **Headings:** Select the heading level (H1, H2, H3, etc.) from the paragraph styles dropdown.
- **Paragraph styles:** Choose from the available predefined paragraph formats in the toolbar.

Applying custom styles
----------------------

Custom styles are pre-defined for your site to keep branding consistent. They include block-level styles such as buttons, callouts, and lead paragraphs.

1. Highlight the text you want to style.
2. Open the **Styles** dropdown in the WYSIWYG editor toolbar.
3. Select the style you want to apply.

> **💡 Note:** Styles that aren't compatible with your current selection will appear greyed out. For example, a button style requires the text to first be formatted as a link, if it isn't, the button style will be unavailable. To apply interactive styles like buttons, convert the text to a link first, then apply the relevant style from the dropdown.

Site-specific styles
--------------------

The styles available to you will depend on your site's configuration. Some common examples include:

- **Button:** Turns a link into a styled button.
- **Lead paragraph:** A larger paragraph style, often used for introductions.
- **Call out:** A highlighted block for drawing attention to key information.

> **💡 Note:** Additional styles may be configured for your specific site. Refer to your user guide documentation for the full list of styles available to you.
